10: PROTECT OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT:
Protect our green and pleasant land. Implement an environmental programme based around sustainable activities in business, transport, agriculture and energy. Deal with social issues which have an impact upon the environment. Contribute to preventing climate change through these policies, taking a stance against globalisation and promoting local sustainable economies as opposed to uncontrollable global ones.
Housing, road building, out of town supermarkets etc. All have gobbled up large sections of our countryside, destroyed wildlife habitats and in some cases become a scar on our landscape. We cannot carry on at this rate. At the same time globalisation has contributed to environmental destruction through unsustainable and in some cases unethical practices. The English Radicals are committed to environmental protection and recognise the impact economic and social policies have upon it – the latter which is often ignored when discussing the green agenda. Our emphasis on smaller, local economies as opposed to globalisation shall help reduce emissions. Concentrating on the research, development and introduction of renewable energy and micro generation will again allow us to reduce emissions and not become a slave to the nuclear power and the overseas uranium mining industry that it requires. Sustainable agriculture, the encouragement of community and support for organic methods of production will see wildlife returning to our fields, woods and hedgerows. In addition to this stricter animal welfare legislation will ensure all animals are well cared for. Social policies in education with an emphasis on values, morals and citizenship, plus massively reducing or ending the requirement for economic migration shall lessen the requirement for mass development.
